onsemi and NIO have announced an expanded strategic partnership aimed at accelerating the development of next-generation electric vehicle platforms. Building on years of collaboration, the two companies will deepen their cooperation by integrating onsemi’s latest EliteSiC enhanced M3e technology to support NIO’s transition from 400V systems to advanced 900V architectures.

Advancing EV Performance, Charging, and Efficiency
onsemi’s EliteSiC enhanced M3e technology improves switching performance through optimized body diode characteristics and reduced turn-on losses (Eon), while maintaining strong short-circuit robustness. These enhancements contribute to higher system output, improved thermal performance, and greater drivetrain efficiency.
For electric vehicles, these advantages translate into several real-world benefits:
  • Increased driving range by minimizing energy loss within the powertrain.
  • More stable and responsive acceleration performance, even under heavy loads or at high speeds.
  • Faster charging enabled by high-voltage fast-charging systems.
  • Long-term reliability with power systems engineered for demanding operating conditions.
Partnership Evolves from 400V to 900V Platforms
The expanded collaboration marks the next phase of a long-standing relationship between the two companies. Their cooperation originally began with onsemi’s EliteSiC technology supporting NIO’s 400V vehicle platform and has since evolved into a broader system-level partnership.
Today, EliteSiC solutions are playing a key role in NIO’s migration toward 900V architectures, including support for the company’s latest flagship SUV, the ES9, as well as additional future models expected to debut at the Auto China 2026.

Executive Perspectives on the Industry Transition
According to Hassane El-Khoury, the EV industry is entering a new phase where system efficiency and scalability are becoming increasingly important. He noted that the expanded partnership with NIO demonstrates how close engineering collaboration and aligned technology roadmaps can accelerate the adoption of high-voltage vehicle architectures. Through EliteSiC technology, onsemi aims to help deliver improved performance, higher efficiency, and faster time-to-market for future EV platforms.

Zeng An stated that NIO remains focused on pushing the boundaries of intelligent electric mobility. He explained that the company’s partnership with onsemi has evolved alongside NIO’s technology roadmap, progressing from early 400V systems to today’s advanced 900V platforms. By combining EliteSiC technology with close technical collaboration, the two companies are working to provide customers worldwide with more efficient and higher-performing electric vehicles.

Supporting the Future of High-Voltage EV Platforms
The partnership also reflects a broader trend within the automotive industry, where automakers and semiconductor suppliers are working more closely together as vehicle electrification becomes increasingly sophisticated.
By enabling deeper system-level integration, onsemi helps automotive manufacturers bring scalable, high-performance EV platforms to market more efficiently while reducing development complexity and accelerating deployment timelines. This collaborative approach is becoming increasingly important as the industry moves toward higher-voltage architectures and more advanced electric drivetrain technologies.
