
TDK Corporation (TSE: 6762) has announced the expansion of its PLEC69B thin-film inductor series (1.2 x 0.6 x 0.95 mm – L x W x H), designed for use in optical transceivers that power AI-driven data centers. Mass production is scheduled to begin in August 2025.
The rapid growth of artificial intelligence has fueled rising demand for high-speed, high-capacity optical transceivers. Within these devices, bias circuits (Bias-Tee) play a critical role by combining power and signal transmission on the same line. Inductors such as the PLEC69B isolate signals from the power source thanks to their impedance characteristics, preventing interference and ensuring stable performance.
This new component leverages TDK’s proprietary metallic magnetic material and advanced structural design, delivering the highest standard performance for a 10 μH inductor in a compact 1206 package. With an operating frequency range of 10 MHz to 200 MHz, the PLEC69B offers superior high-impedance separation between signal and power, improving communication quality. The device features a typical DC resistance of just 1.4 Ω—about 70% lower than competing products—helping reduce power loss and heat generation. It also supports a rated current (Isat) of 0.2 A, 1.7 times higher than similar devices, while its compact size saves valuable PCB space. The inductor ensures high reliability, supporting operating temperatures up to +125 °C.
With the launch of this product, TDK continues to expand its portfolio to meet the market’s growing need for lower power consumption and faster communication across data centers, servers, optical communication systems, and edge devices. These efforts aim to support the AI sector’s rapid expansion and long-term growth.
